A&P Electrical Lead

Position Overview

Electra is seeking a highly experienced A&P Electrical Lead to join our growing team. This role will lead and support a wide range of fabrication, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities across prototype and production aircraft.

The ideal candidate will bring strong electrical and avionics expertise, leadership capability, and a passion for influencing next-generation aircraft design to ensure airworthiness, reliability, and manufacturability.

This position reports to the Manufacturing & Supply Chain organization and is based onsite in Manassas, VA.

 

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Lead daily planning and execution of A&P electrical and mechanical work scopes
  • Lead fabrication and assembly of the Copper Bird electrical system test bed
  • Participate in pre-task briefings to align on scope, staffing, and timelines
  • Ensure proper job planning, material readiness, and milestone adherence
  • Perform and oversee aircraft structural maintenance, modifications, and inspections
  • Execute electrical wiring, avionics integration, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Interpret and apply approved technical data, engineering drawings, and schematics
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble aircraft systems and components
  • Conduct quality checks using precision measurement tools and test equipment
  • Support prototype development and production builds with engineering teams
  • Perform line maintenance and sustainment activities
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Mentor junior technicians and support continuous process improvement
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Education & Experience

  • FAA-issued Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License
  • 6+ years of experience in general aviation aircraft maintenance (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong avionics and aircraft electrical systems experience
  • Hands-on experience with prototype (experimental) and certified aircraft
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, wiring, testing, and system integration
  • Experience with structural materials (composites and metals), including:
  • Carbon fiber, fiberglass, Kevlar
  • Aluminum and titanium structures
  • Familiarity with non-conformance processes and material control
  • Experience with aircraft rigging and mechanical systems
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Part 5 Safety Management Systems (SMS)
  • Part 21 and AS9100D Quality Management Systems
  • Ability to read and influence Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMMs)
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (<5%)

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Inspection Authorization (IA)
  • Composite fabrication experience (prepreg, wet layup, vacuum bagging)
  • Aluminum airframe fabrication and assembly experience
  • High-voltage (HV) systems experience
  • Forklift certification/experience
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)
  • Pilot license (FAA, EASA, PPL, CPL, etc.)
  • U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder)
